The is growing and we're welcoming more and more new single user instances but can become challenging.

With instances, single user and smaller instances can quickly become federated and grow which is supported by many Fediverse applications like etc.

I understand the feeling. In the past I was always like: Oh no, so I have to install an app for this? Cuz I knew it means I have to inform myself and deep dive into the app settings and my DNS filters to hedge my privacy as good as possible.

With FOSS and Fediverse it’s like: Wow, this works so well, let’s check all its potential and tell everybody about it 🤩. And it works FOR me, not AGAINST me 🥰.

    Excitement is back 🙌🏻

@screwtape Are you not an fan? You already have a / / home on and maybe a on git.sdf.org? There's a fedithing called and has a plugin etc. Generating any or all of these from inside is presumably a solved problem and here on is a good place to announce / tie it all together..

We techies really are nerds living in our own little bubble. Every time I talk to friends outside of IT, they just laugh at the things we take for granted. In our world, it’s completely normal to assume that everyone has their own domain, self-hosts everything, avoids anything proprietary like it’s the plague, and probably has a dozen side projects running on some self-built server in their closet.

But then there’s my friend, a mechanic, who finds this absolutely hilarious. To him, it’s like expecting every car mechanic to not only have their own repair garage at home but also to manufacture their own tools and, while they’re at it, maybe even start their own car brand. It sounds ridiculous when you put it that way - but to us, that’s just how things should be!
