Listen, I know that a whole lot of you want to leave the #Fediverse due to the shenanigans of the Homeowners Association (#HOA). And no doubt, sometimes you must.
But you should also know that it means a lot to see you stick around. I really am rooting for you.
And many devs and admins are building better tech despite repeated harassment from certain malicious people. Because this movement really is bigger than the HOA – and they hate that.

I need to stop myself from commenting on posts on the #fediverse on one hand this is considered by some people as "rude" and on the second hand the medium is the wrong for having decent conversations. This is just another Twitter clone, some other becoming hellscape of #social media.
Being labelled also as a "reply-guy" (or "troll") is also what I don't I can comprehend. At the moment the "receiver" of a message doesn't like the content or the sender, the sender is labelled as "something bad".

Specifically those who don't understand what the word "open" means.
If you want a walled garden, PLEASE, do yourself and Fedi a favor and go back to corporate social media.
Fedi devs are building on an open protocol.
You have options to limit your visibility.
Opt out of search features, and post with "unlisted" or "followers only" setting.
Use them.
Don't harass developers trying to make the platform usable.

But who are these users, and what servers are they on? Here’s the top five servers by MAUs:
- phijkchu.com - 6,284
- wirtube.de - 4,998
- peertube600.pocketnet.app - 4,642
- gegenstimme.tv - 4,519
- swebbtv.se - 4,052
Four of the top five servers are located in Europe, and the bulk of their videos are directly serve a specific language (German, Russian, Swedish, etc.)
The lone English language server is phijkchu, and it seems to be run by an indie game developer named Robert Moran. I have no idea who he is but he seems to be a big deal.
By the way, the bulk of Peertube users seem completely unaware they’re on the Fediverse and just see their server as a self-contained site.

I feel sense of helplessness and hopelessness—every time I turn on the television or get online.
As much I’m glad I found #Fediverse community and have had such good experiences, but current state of our political climate drives practically every news outlet and even somehow works its way onto just about every feeds and timelines—even here.
Hard to look away, unless I force myself to look away. I should not have to spend less time on social web to avoid seeing news about our current president and crew, but that how it is going to have to be for me. Hard for me to watch.
The only thing I know is no one is coming to save US and I am not even sure if we can save ourselves this time.

Opinion: it's awesome that we've been seeing such heavy development when it comes to the #fediverse and open, ethical services in general. But what we really need is apps. Even Apple's iPhone was stuck on the border of popularity before it had apps. Polished apps are the key to breaking into the mainstream.
I'm not saying that we don't have any, but we don't have the massive ecosystem that we could. I'm not sure that services like Friendica or Bookwyrm have apps available at all, and if they do, they're not nearly as available as options like @moshidon or @Pixelix, which are what I'm talking about here. I was thrilled to see @ivory first announced, and that's the sort of stuff that we need for this to really take off. That, and to make invisible the more nerdy "server" end of things.
So can we please stop assuming evil?
