If something I boost has image(s) without alt text, please check the following posts in the thread. I don’t boost posts without providing alt text (and often I just don’t boost posts without alt text that I might have otherwise unless I think they’re worth the time/effort for me to do it).

If I do this for one of your posts, please edit the post and copy/paste the text I’ve provided into the image descriptions so people who rely on screen readers can know what’s in them too.

Let’s keep the fediverse accessible.

Thanks 💕

The is growing and we're welcoming more and more new single user instances but can become challenging.

With instances, single user and smaller instances can quickly become federated and grow which is supported by many Fediverse applications like etc.

Looks like Mastodon is going to need better moderator tools

Underprivileged people are apparently especially easy to target on #ActivityPub , or so I have been told, and I believe it. They have been complaining about it to the Mastodon developers over the years, but the Mastodon developers at best don’t give a shit, at worst are hostile to the idea, and have been mostly ignoring these criticisms. Well, now we have “Nicole,” the infamous “Fediverse Chick”, a spambot that seems to be registering hundreds of accounts across several #Mastodon instances, and then once registered, sends everyone a direct message introducing itself.

You can’t block it by domain or by name since the name keeps changing and spans multiple instances. It is the responsibility of each domain to prevent registrations of bots like this.

But what happens when the bot designer ups the ante? What happens when they try this approach but with a different name each time? Who is to say that isn’t already happening and we don’t notice it? This seems to be an attempt to show everyone a huge weakness in the content moderation toolkit, and we are way overdue to address these weaknesses.

      #fediverse #ContentModeration #FediverseChick #Mastodon #Spam #SpamBot

A screen grab of a list of search results for "(at)Nicole" showing the same avatar and name registered under many names across many instances, showing that it must be a spambot.

The screen grab is from a browser connected to an Akkoma instance running the Mangane front-end.

        the #Fediverse is booming

I joined my first Mastodon instance in the fall of 2022 and I have been having so much fun with it ever since. Since #Reddit did their IPO and started selling my personal data to AI companies without my permission or consent, I have stopped using all corporate-owned social media. But to be honest, Reddit had such an immense community of diverse people that Mastodon has never been quite as interesting as Reddit… until now.

Thanks to the Unite States’ biggest tech company CEOs publicly supporting Donald #Trump, people have finally started taking serious the threat that is corporate owned social media. #ActivityPub services like #Mastodon, #Frendica, #Pleroma, #Akkoma, #Lemmy, #PixelFed, and #PeerTube are experiencing another major surge in the number of users as people abandon #Facebook and even more people abandon Twitter. The same thing happened in 2022 when Elon Musk bought #Twitter.

I follow close to 550 people and almost 200 hashtags now and this has kept my feed interesting enough for me to enjoy logging on to the Fediverse every day. But since Trump’s second inauguration, my feed has started overflowing with new posts — the new posts are coming in literally non-stop now.

In 2022, I feel like Mastodon hit a critical mass where it became interesting and fun to use. In 2025 now, we hit another point of critical mass of users where it has actually become better in quality than corporate-owned services such as Reddit. More importantly, I think people are starting to realize that they can’t trust corporate ownership of any public service, the re-election of Trump has shocked people out of complacency. So this is tiny bit a of good news in the otherwise dense fog of horrifying current events.

I've performed some tests, and it's great. and are working great together - now with caching of media and json responses, to scale up, and up, and up...and up!
is the best tool for caching, but the setup I've tested doesn't require it and it's still good enough.
I think this will be a blog post, as soon as I'll have enough time.

            Update no. 2:

Yesterday my 4-year-old woke up at 7am thus thwarting my plans to read for a good hour.

So today I woke up at 6am to resume reading the book. It’s THAT GOOD.

The leaders at have been shockingly irresponsible in their decisions since the early days. All they care about? Gathering data and influence and making big bucks. I’m so glad I got out of all their platforms and I’m on the instead.

History books won’t be kind to Zuck, Sandberg et al.

to your images and media so that your posts are accessible to all, and (bonus point) more people will boost them.

Just curious, does anyone use the "private note (on account)" feature of the #Fediverse?

Using @amin's account as an example, because I know he won't mind me "picking" on him.

For the record, I never have, but I've noticed the possibility on many occasions. Just never had a clear reason to do so.

(Screenshot to follow in a reply, as I cannot attach both a poll and an image, for some reason)

Hello Fedi friends and happy Sunday!

Just wanted to share how AMAZING it feels to see my “stock photo” being used by writers to accompany their articles.

Extra happy points when the article in question is brilliant: joanwestenberg.com/the-fediver thank you @Daojoan ❤️

I had read it a couple of days ago and just spotted it again at the top of Explore.

A reminder I should create more Fediverse stock photos (laptop, Android phone…). Anyway wishing you all a lovely Sunday!

One of the most common questions asked by new people is this: "Why is this place on so many different servers? Why isn't it all on one server like other social networks?"

There are many important reasons why Mastodon and the wider Fediverse is spread out on thousands of servers:

Hopefully these reasons answer the question. I've tried to keep the explanations as non-technical as possible 🙂
