Good morning .

How is everyone today? Any good plans for the day?

I had to take my youngest to school today because my other daughter is sick and couldn’t take her. So now I’m at work way earlier than usual.

I just have the regular work schedule today. I’m still working on moving the client into their own MSP stuff as I was doing yesterday. Not sure what may also come up but hope nothing crazy does.

After work I have church and then will just relax for the rest of the day.

            https://www.knthost.com/snac2
Absolute Empfehlung. Also beides. K&T und Snac 🙂

I'm now a huge Snac2 fan! The whole thing here on this domain was once intended as a test, but has now established itself and “taken on a life of its own”. Simply because Snac is super solid and uncomplicated and the developer is a cool guy who listens and thinks along.
My Snac instance runs administratively at @knt@streams.knthost.com, because I have no idea about basic server settings etc., but I can operate a shell terminal from time to time.
The guys are currently offering everything out-of-the-box as a beta test:

Absolute recommendation. So both. K&T and Snac 🙂

The Kickstarter campaign for is going nicely, having reached twice its original funding goal after only one week.

I am supporting this campaign with non-trivial amounts of money, since I see this as yet another good opportunity to weaken the stranglehold of corporate social media. And this campaign had good timing - the "official app" was released just before revealed their new, pro-fascist policy changes and started to look for alternatives to .

Furthermore, among those who have heard of the at all, most believe it to be identical with . Pixelfed is also an opportunity to change that perception - that we have a whole ecosystem of interconnected apps and services here which is greater than the sum of its parts.

Hey : does anyone know what channel.org actually is? Is it providing a useful service for someone, somewhere? The homepage makes it look like enterprise big-tech marketroid nonsense, but for nonprofits. It seems to boost random posts to random hashtags with bots. Is there a purpose other than fake engagement here? Or should I block it to save my notifications from random noise.

Today I'm sending Positive Energy channeled through Universal Love to all people on the Fediverse who have given me info on questions I asked, and taught me how to do certain things in more efficient manners.

In the short time I've been here (since 2K18 from my 1st account/instance) I've gone from dormant to active when I was forced out from Twitter, due to the Elon_Musk_Effect.

When people saw posts of mine with accompanying gfx and could not process them due to eyesight issues, one of those kind souls taught me about the existance of @altbot as built by @micr0 which gave me the power to let AI do something positve while generating Alt text on the fly, enabling those users to also fully read my posts as they are intended

At a certian point I started to see posts by @stefano after I read a few of his powerful & informative posts on providing solutions for small (company) users, companies and single individuals (many strangers on the Fediverse) using the power of OpenSource as a whole, not tying himself to one particular platform or hardware area. If the fix is best in freeBSD he'll teach you / implement that, if the fix is best in OpenDOS due to your hardware / VM / Emulator / jail used he'll go so far to give you that, using the KISS principle.

Stefano's philosophy synchronizes so close to mine, it's a natural progression for me to follow the work that he releases more closely and bring myself to higher modulation frequencies in the IT computer & networking spectrum.

Thanks to all of you I was linked to skilled network and hardware techs like @gyptazy who selflessly setup sophisticated platforms for individuals to teach themselves *BSD OS installation & configuration almost from scratch, by giving freeBSD & other VM's through load-balanced Proxmox systems.

Going on will take long and I will fill the 5k character width I have available here, thanks to the max available parameters setup on this FediVerse instance by the System Operator.
Instead I will pause with a

Thank you, Elena. You’re one of those people who radiate optimism, positivity, enthusiasm, and passion, and it’s thanks to people like you that free communication thrives.

This is your reminder that if your post is set to "Public", then anyone can and probably will, do anything they want with your posts.

With over 20,000 Fedi instances and 10m accounts, you have no way to tell who or what is consuming your posts and what they could be doing with them.

Consider your public posts as if you just threw them out on the sidewalk for all to see. There's no expectation of privacy on the sidewalk.

See: Awakari for an example of a service that has been on Fedi for over a year now that sells data based on topics discussed.

How do I know they sell it? There's an option on their site that says "Free first 30 days of access", implying that there's a fee after the 30 days.

Do yourself a favor and don't post publicly if you expect privacy.

It just occurred to me that the Forbes article uses a stock photo of a hand holding up a smartphone with a bunch of apps from mainstream, for-profit social media... even if the piece is about the .

So on my to do list for today: recreating a similar photo showing Fediverse software instead. Like, how my actual phone looks like.

As a photographer, I feel it's my duty to do this.

I will give the pic a CC BY-ND license. Thoughts?

The reason is that most of them use alt text. They take the time to describe the images that my screen reader can't recognise. Some write the descriptions themselves, and others use tools such as altbot. Some worry that their descriptions aren't good enough, especially when they are new at this. Let me assure you, not only are they good enough, they are extremely appreciated! If the rest of the world thought as you did, it would be a much better place. Don't hesitate to ask if you're unsure of something, but never think that we don't notice your effort.

Just a few days ago, I lunched my new relay service for the and I'm really happy to see that there're already many ones connected to - more than 50 instances in just a few days!

But what makes me even really happy is to see, that my service [2] also gets linked in the release notes of [1] / - and I can recommend the usage of relay services (it doesn't matter which one!) to everyone. It provides more content from connected instances to you, but also brings your posts - from your local instance - up to other ones within the federated network where it can get much easier distributed around other instances.

is the perfect way to host an own fediverse instance. Using the protocol allows you to connect to all other instances. With the integrated API, you can also use most of your usual clients or web clients. Snac is light, fast, does not require any database and follows the KISS way - which the most of us BSD people are living. With relay services, it's the perfect match for singe-user instances and @grunfink is always open for ideas and to help! It does not always need to be , etc!

And if you're using any other software, you may still benefit by using relay services. And if you're still looking for a guide, howto setup snac2 on , my howto [3] might help you out.
