New blogpost: Blocking searches and removing other people's toots: my Mastodon server and the Online Safety Act
My attempts at trying to close off some of the loopholes in my Mastodon server:
nginx configuration to limit access to the search tool, which can be used to essentially proxy content from other servers
learning how to delete toots, and media, from the database, so that it is no longer on my instance. Blunt but effective?
Did you know you can block an ENTIRE company from your network? It's easy with #OpenWRT and the #BanIP package. Is that extreme? Yes! Is it what you want to do? Probably Not! But Maybe it is.
1) Search for the ASN for the company you want to nuke (e.g Facebook, Twitter, Microsoft).
2) Use a tool to acquire a list of ASN IPs such as https://hackertarget.com/as-ip-lookup/
3) Paste into the banIP blacklist and reload
Upgrading your home router can be an excellent gateway into #linux, #selfhosting, and #infosec. Many sub $70 routers can be found easily that support OpenWRT.

🍵Found a new voice dictation keyboard on f-droid. It's nearly as good as FUTO and completely FOSS. I'm using it right now.
FFS, GNOME! Just wasted a day of editing video because the built-in screen recorder records screencasts at such a low quality that I ended up with keyframe artefacts / ghosting in my captures.
